On May 29, 2024, Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) organized its very first combined field trip for the final year students of the Faculties of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Fisheries, and Agriculture. This innovative trip was coordinated by the respective guide teachers from each faculty, whose meaningful contributions ensured the program's success.

INTRODUCTION
In recent times, gizzard erosion and ulceration syndrome (GEU) have been very common in poultry at mild to moderate levels. The gizzard, also called a muscular stomach, is composed of a koilin (keratenoid) layer and an underlying mucosa35. Gizzard erosion and ulceration syndrome (GEU) are characterized by erosive lesions in the koilin layer of the gizzard and macroscopic defects in mucosa1. It was described and termed as ‘ventriculitis’2, ‘black vomit’3, ‘vomito negro’4, and ‘Muskelmagenerosionen5, in different published articles. The condition is seen in both layer and broiler chicken, but broilers have a higher incidence.

বাংলাদেশে সাধারণত শীতকালেই হাঁসের মাংসের চাহিদা বৃদ্ধি পায়। কারণ, এই সময় হাঁসে চর্বির পরিমাণ বেশি থাকে বিধায় হাঁসের মাংস খেতে সুস্বাদু হয়। কিন্তু খুব শীঘ্রই এই প্রচলিত ধারার অবসান হতে যাচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশে সব ঋতুতেই যাতে স্বাস্থ্যকর এবং সুস্বাদু হাঁসের মাংস পাওয়া যায়, তার জন্য আমরা কাজ করছি, এবং এই বিষয় গুলো তুলে ধরার জন্যই আপনাদের আজ এখানে আমন্ত্রণ জানিয়েছি।

বাংলাদেশে প্রাণী সম্পদ খাতের উপখাত হিসাবে পোল্ট্রি খাত বিশেষ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে চলছে। ৯০ এর দশকে দেশে বাণিজ্যিক ভাবে দেশে পোল্ট্রি শিল্প ও ব্রয়লার উৎপাদন শুরু হয়। তবে এ শিল্পে অদক্ষ, অল্পশিক্ষিত এবং অধিক মুনাফালোভী খামারারিদের এন্টিবায়োটিক্স অপব্যবহারের কারণে গত কয়েক বছর ধরে জনমনে ব্রয়লার পণ্য ভীতির কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়ায়। এবার সে জায়গায় এন্টিবায়োটিক্স মুক্ত ও এন্টিবায়োটিক্সেরে বিকল্প ব্রয়লার উৎপাদনে সফলতার পথে হাঁটছেন বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (বাকৃবি) ফার্মাকোলজি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. মো. শফিকুল ইসলাম এবং সহযোগী গবেষক মো. আবু রায়হান পারভেজ। র্দীঘ ৫ বছর ধরে এন্টিবায়োটিক্সসের বিকল্প ও মুক্ত ব্রয়লার উৎপাদনে এ গবেষণা কার্যক্রম তারা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছেন।
