WPSA-BB Hosts International Technical Seminar Aimed at Globally Competitive Poultry Production

Md. Afzal Hossain, Dhaka, October 3, 2026: The World’s Poultry Science Association–Bangladesh Branch (WPSA-BB) organized the 'International Technical Seminar 2026' with the aim of making Bangladesh's poultry industry more resilient, sustainable, and capable of competing globally. The seminar took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden, Dhaka. Held under the theme "Resilient Poultry Production for Global Competitiveness," the seminar addressed various issues, including current challenges in the poultry sector, production economics, productivity, food security, sustainable production, regulatory compliance, and Bangladesh's potential in the global market.

Policymakers, academicians, researchers, industry entrepreneurs, development partners, and professionals from various levels of the poultry sector participated in the event. The organizers hope that this initiative has created a significant platform for stakeholders to exchange views on the current realities, potential, and future course of action for the country's poultry industry. 
Mohammad Faizur Rahman Faiz, General Secretary of WPSA-BB, delivered the welcome address during the inaugural session of the event.

Mashiur Rahman, President of BPCC, and Dr. Shakila Faruque, Director General (Additional Charge) of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI), attended as special guests. Md. Shahzaman Khan, Director General (In-charge) of the Department of Livestock Services, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President of WPSA-BB, presided over the event.
Three significant technical sessions were held during the day-long seminar. The first session focused on "Poultry Economics & Production Performance." The second session addressed "Safety and Sustainability," covering safety measures and sustainable management in poultry production. The third session, titled "Compliance and Global Market Positioning," highlighted regulatory compliance within Bangladesh's poultry industry and strategies to strengthen its position in the international market.
In this session, Mr. Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President, WPSA-BB, presented on “Bangladesh Poultry Economics: Costs, Productivity, Risks, Profits, Resilience, and Baseline.” The presentation focused on the broader economic dimensions of poultry production, including production costs, productivity, profitability, risks and resilience.
Mr. Md. Jahidul Islam, Director and CEO, Third Eye Agro Consultancy Hub, and Kitima Jindamongkon, Regional Manager, Gut Health, dsm-firmenich, jointly addressed “Broiler Production Paradox: Extreme FCR, Genetic Potential, Meat Quality, and Profitability.”

The second session, “Safety and Sustainability,” was chaired by Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, BAU, with Prof. Dr. Md. Elias Hossain, Department of Poultry Science, BAU, as co-chair.
Prof. Dr. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, Professor, Department of Pathology, BAU, presented “Broiler Meat Safety: Reconciling Concerns, Science, and Solutions,” addressing the scientific and practical dimensions of meat safety.
The session also featured Mr. Moshiur Rahman, President, BPICC, who presented “Climate-Smart Poultry Farming: From Carbon Footprint to Green Finance Through Carbon Credits.”
Following the lunch, prayer and networking break, the seminar resumed with the third technical session, “Compliance and Global Market Positioning.” The session was chaired by Dr. Md. Abul Hashem, Department of Animal Science, BAU, while Dr. Mohammed Abdus Samad, Principal Scientific Officer, BLRI, served as co-chair.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Senior Technical Policy Specialist (One Health), FAO, delivered a presentation titled “Healthy Farms, Healthy Trade: Setting Standards and Monitoring Compliance.” The session subsequently turned to the export potential of Bangladesh’s poultry industry, with Ms. Baby Rani Karmakar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Government of Bangladesh, and Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan Sikder, Professor, Department of Pharmacology, BAU, presenting on “Unlocking Halal Poultry Export Opportunities from Bangladesh: Overcoming Compliance Gaps, Global Market Requirements, and Export Guidelines.”
Additionally, a general discussion with a Q&A segment was held in the afternoon, allowing participants to share their views and raise questions regarding the topics discussed.
Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President of WPSA-BB, delivered the concluding remarks. Subsequently, Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali, Convener of the Technical Sub-committee for the International Technical Seminar 2026, offered the vote of thanks. According to the organizers, this international technical seminar can play a significant role in making Bangladesh's poultry sector more stable and competitive by fostering effective linkages among technology, science, policy, and industry.
