Open-sided broiler houses rely on natural airflow instead of environmental control, which makes management more challenging—but not impossible. Success in these systems depends on how well the houses are managed. 
The Biggest Challenge: Temperature Control
Temperature control starts with house design. Roofs should be double- or triple-ridge designs to allow hot air to escape rapidly, especially if they are uninsulated. The roof should extend 1.0-1.5 m beyond the house walls to prevent direct sunlight and rain from reaching the chickens, and shade cloth should run from the edge of the roof to the ground. A white or shiny roofing material will help reflect heat away from the building, and under-roof insulation can reduce radiant heat entering the house. Vegetation near a slat house can reduce ground temperature compared to bare earth, and trees can provide shade, but the benefits must be weighed against the risk of creating places for birds and rodents near the house.

CIMMYT workshop explores climate threats to diets and health

Climate pressures on agriculture could influence what households eat and potentially affect nutrition and cardiometabolic health, experts said at a workshop in Dhaka on Sunday (September 20, 2026).
The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) organized the workshop at Dhaka to examine the links between climate change, agriculture, household food choices, nutrition and diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

World's Poultry Congress
Historically, the World's Poultry Congress was held every three years from 1921 to 1954, except during the years affected by the Second World War. প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে বাংলাদেশ প্রাণিসম্পদ গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট (বিএলআরআই) কর্তৃক বাস্তবায়নাধীন “মহিষ গবেষণা ও উন্নয়ন (প্রথম সংশোধিত)” শীর্ষক উন্নয়ন প্রকল্পের সমাপনী কর্মশালা উদ্বোধনকালে আজ সকালে সাভারে মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ মন্ত্রণালয় এবং কৃষি মন্ত্রণালয়ের মাননীয় মন্ত্র্রী জনাব মোহাম্মদ আমিন উর রশিদ মহোদয় একথা বলেন।
মহিষ পালনকে জনপ্রিয় করার জন্য তিনি গুরুত্ব আরোপ করে তিনি বলেন, উন্নত দেশসমূহে মহিষ দুধের অনেক বড় একটি উৎস্য। আমাদের দেশের চরাঞ্চলে তুলনামূলক কম কৃষি কাজ হয়। এখানে যদি আমরা লবণাক্ত মাটির জন্য উপযোগী লবণ সহিষ্ণু জাতের ঘাস চাষ করতে পারি, তবে মহিষ পালনের একটি উপযুক্ত ক্ষেত্র হতে পারে। তবে ভবিষ্যতে কৃষি কাজের জন্য জায়গার স্বল্পতা দেখা যাবে। তাই কম জায়গায় কিভাবে মহিষ পালন করা যায় সে বিষয়ে গবেষণা কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করতে হবে।

নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদক : মৎস্য ও প্রাণিসম্পদ এবং কৃষিমন্ত্রী মোহাম্মদ আমিন উর রশিদ বলেছেন, আসন্ন পবিত্র ঈদুল আযহা উপলক্ষ্যে দেশীয় খামারিদের স্বার্থ রক্ষায় সীমান্তবর্তী পশুর হাট বন্ধের বিষয়ে নীতিগত সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। তিনি বলেন, অতীতে সীমান্তঘেঁষা কিছু হাটের মাধ্যমে বিদেশি পশু প্রবেশ করে দেশীয় খামারিরা ক্ষতির সম্মুখীন হয়েছেন। এ পরিস্থিতি বন্ধে বর্ডার এলাকায় হাট না বসানোর উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।
